About stock market news
Hi, keeping abreast on news ?
NEWS also means north east west south, depending on the perspective.
As regards the stock market, news is
usually stale,
washed out,
for your stupidity,
information.
Well, it is like this:
When the news is heard, it is already great great grandfather's old.
When the news is read, it is already great grandfather's old.
When the news is being printed, it is already grandfather's old.
When the news is being composed, it is already father's old.
When the news is happening, yes, that is the news, the new born news.
When the news is being conceived,
ah, that will be the news,
to make things happen,
the future.
To have a good start from news, the new born one will suffice.
Yet, one can be further ahead !
One might ask, is it possible ?
Yes, it happens all the time;
the insider,
and yes again,
the rumourmonger
Now, who wants to rely on news for playing the stock market ?
Good luck !

Why the roosters disappeared
Just a fictional story.
Ah Ngiow's new neighbour bought a pair of chicks to keep as a hobby. Chicks are fluffy, likable, and lovable as pets. But soon they matured into roosters and performed their time calls naturally. These calls were strange in the suburban neighbourhood, and not all neighbours took a liking to their crowing at odd hours.
One day the crowing was heard no more, and the roosters also were not seen anymore. A regular visitor noticed the silence, and being a long time good friend of Ah Ngiow, accused him of being responsible for the disappearance the roosters.
Ah Ngiow could not lie to this friend, but he responded, "You accuse me just because you saw me eating my favourite curry chicken, but even if I had wanted to, it would not be because I like curry chicken; the one and single purpose would be because their crowing is not very pleasant."

ERP increases
Whoa !
Mr. Lim Swee Say spoke with conviction and with gusto;
he is likely to feel very foolish down the road.
What a minister !
Ron
Mr Lim said: "It's not the purpose of the government to make the people suffer more.
It doesn't make sense that our government wants the people to suffer under high inflation.
The purpose of ERP increases is not to increase revenue for the government.
The one and only purpose of ERP increases is to manage traffic congestion in Singapore.
If there is no traffic congestion, there will be no ERP increases."
Mr Lim said the government is trying to lighten inflationary pressures but will not offer popular solutions.

Golden Barrel Cactus
Good morning,
How to re-pot a Golden Barrel Cactus.
The Golden Barrel Cactus is spherical in shape; it can grow to about 60 centimeters in diameter. Its strong sharp spines grow to a few centimeters long and are golden in colour, so are its flowers. This cactus is amusingly also known as Mother-in-Law's Cushion. Some people can guess why.
I have one which was outgrowing its pot and I had to re-pot it. It was about 20 centimeters in diameter, weighing a couple of kilograms. This was a tricky job, and wearing leather gloves would not do as the spines would be damaged when it is held because of its weight.
So I did it my way, the only way I could think of. I strung its mid section with raffia strings, and then tied this string at three points around this circumference with more raffia, and with which I could lift up the cactus and suspend it from a tripod. Thereafter, I prepared the new pot, and carefully lowered the cactus into it. When the cactus was suspended, I was able to center it nicely into the new pot at the right height from its bottom. After this I fill in the new soil and that was the job done.
There are many types of cactus which can be grown in pots. Because of their difference in shape, spherical, cylindrical or square in section, number of segments, contour of each segment, colour, spines, they are very popular with cacti-hobbyists. They need minimal care and produce a variety of flowers, of unusual shapes, sizes and colours, often developing into fruits.
Cacti-enthusiasts usually started by buying a set of three different kinds for ten dollars, and before they realise it, they already own several dozen variety of them. I was one such cacti-hobbyist.
If anyone has some time to spare, this is a rewarding hobby.
These cacti can also sehkia, or, reproduce. But it is the witnessing of a small ugly looking ball of spiny vegetation growing into a beautiful globe crowned with unusual colour flowers that is rewarding.
Also, one can literally get hooked by cactus,
especially by the fishhook cactus.

Quality of Living Quality of Life
Good morning,
Singapore ranks 32nd. this year,
up two places higher than the 34th. in 2007,
in this Quality of Living survey.
This is about the quality of living.
On the quality of life, I found out that
Singapore has 1807 registered charities
as at 31 December 2005
These 1807 registered charities raised
a total of $4.35 billion in total income.
(albeit outdated figures).
S$4,350,000,000 by 1807 registered charities
gives quite a tidy sum to distribute.
Now how much does each charity dependant get ?
This gives a dingdong result;
if the sum is big, then each gets too much;
but if the sum is small, then there are too many poor people.
If one recipient gets S$4,350 say,
then there are 1,000,000 poor people.
This figure when compared with Singapore's population
does not make this Quality of Living data
much joy to jump about, is there ?
Is quality of living over quality of life what nations aim for?
Ron
Mercer's 2008 Quality of Living survey highlights
European cities dominate the rankings of locations with the best quality of living, according to Mercer's 2008 Quality of Living survey.
Zurich retains its 2007 title as the highest ranked city,
followed jointly by Vienna (2), Geneva (2),
then Vancouver (4)
and Auckland (5).
Auckland (5) is the city in Asia Pacific with the best quality of living, followed by Sydney (10) and Wellington (12).
Elsewhere in Asia, Singapore (32) ranks two places higher than in 2007, slightly higher than Japanese cities such as Tokyo (35).
Hong Kong and Beijing retain their 2007 rankings,
respectively 70 and 116 in 2008.
Bangalore (140) is India's most highly ranked city
followed closely by Mumbai (142).
Both have seen a marked improvement in their rankings since 2007. Elsewhere in Asia, Kuala Lumpur ranks 75,
followed by Taipei (84), Seoul (86),
Bangkok (109) and Jakarta (146).
According to the index, Auckland,
the city with the best quality of living in Asia Pacific,
scores 107.3 while Dhaka,
the city with the region's worst quality of living, scores 38.9.

Seriousness & Frivolity
Someone circulated an email about the recent major catastrophes
around the world being engineered by the Americans:
China Eartquake caused by US ???
Ref: http://www.network54.com/Forum/211833/thread/1212373539/last-1212379247/U.S.+caused+China+earthquakes-
Why ???
Wherefore ???
When there is a simpler way to do this !!!
Alamak, Whoa Ho Ho !!!
All the while I thought
that the earthquake was done by Dolly Parton, man !
You see, I did not believe in the ButterflyEffect theory,
but then I remember the SimpleHarmonicMotion theory
taught me and my colleagues by GeorgeFungus,
and I was led to conclude that the cause was Dolly Parton.
We know her assets, and when she sings like she does the song 9to5,
she moves about actively and her assets also move and oscillate.
And it is when they swing in opposite directions in a certain way,
yes, only in that particular way,
a double whammy effect of the SimpleHarmonicMotion was generated,
and also when the atmospheric latent potential was conducive,
a deep penetrating volcanic effect was produced
which travels through all the voids underground caused
by all the petroleum oil that was drilled out of the ground,
and all this reverberate and cause such a chain
reaction of cacophonous resonance,
producing the earthquake.
Dolly Parton cannot do this all the time,
except when all the conditions are met.
So the next time when Dolly Parton or
someone like her sings,
watch her carefully.
Sleep well.

Holding INDEX stocks
Dear friends,
There are investment experts who advised stock market investors about buying INDEX stocks, which method over time regularly outperformed a not so expert investor's own choices.
This may be about index stocks like the S&P500, but in the case of an index of limited few stocks, there is the danger of these stocks fluctuating greatly in prices by their being overweighted or underweighted by fund managers because of their being included or excluded from the index.
One can not foresee this inclusion or exclusion unless one is privy to it. So, perhaps, it is wise to be very alert or careful holding such shares.
My little opinion only.
