My second eye examination
To Whom This May Benefit
Ophthalmology clinic, Changi General Hospital
Appointment 29 October 2013, made a year ago
Arrived at 9.15am, 10 minutes before time
Informed to proceed to S Clinic instead, next door
Wow, waiting room was packed
About 100 chairs, almost all occupied
At left 2 queue(Q) number machines
At right a row of 4 registration officers (RO)
What to do ? Not familiar here
Take queue (Q) slip and wait ?
But I already got appointment !
Interrupted an RO and inquired
Told to drop appointment letter in box
Obeyed as told and waited
About 9.35am was given 2 Q-slips and told to wait
2 Q-slips, I was confused, which is where to wait
Returned to RO
RO numbered the slips 1 and 2
And I was to watch the Q-board
2 Q-boards, green and brown
10.05am brown Q-board flashed my number
Entered room and sat as directed
Positioned chin before equipment
Pleasant nurse blasted air at each eye, waited
Proceeded to wall after the other patient left
Read eye-chart, eye by eye
Returned to pleasant nurse for dilating eye drops
Told to wait outside, to be called by 20 minutes
Waited 30 minutes, heard no call
Wondered what happened
Walked around the place, waiting area is L-shape
Thought likely my number called at the other end
Checked with nurse carrying load of files
Nurse checked and told me to wait at room 22, other end
Waited there for sometime,
Other patients went in and came out
Checked with nurse/officer attending to waiting patients
Nurse/officer checked with previous nurse
Told to wait at room 22 again
Waited there
About 10.50am Q-board flashed my number
But it was to room 23 instead
Here my eyes were checked thoroughly, the main job
About 11.05am I came out, all done
Payment was made at the ROs
Oh they were so sweet at this end
They were ROs when I came in
All in all my eye examination was done in about 100 minutes
It could have be shorter
Under the circumstances this is quite satisfactory
Except
the procedures
They should take into consideration people who are not
familiar with it
I could have been made to wait till I don't know when
Patients thus are and necessarily must be patient
